Vanilla Bean
Called Nilla for short, she was my second bunny and CinnaBun's wife. I
adopted Nilla in August 2002 from a rabbit rescue in Downey, CA. Nilla was a very
special bunny b/c she had cataracts. She was fully blind in her right eye and
50% in her left eye. (Unfortunately that would be 2 strikes against anyone
adopting her - 1) she wasn't a baby and 2) she had some medical issues...) I have
to admit when they told me that eventually she would be totally blind i was a
little deterred myself. But i've never regretted my instinct to bring her home
anyways... Cataracts never stopped her from enjoying LIFE! She relied on her
other senses and I have to admit she jumped on the couch better than CinnaBun
(don't tell him I told you tho!)...
Before adopting Nilla, I knew that I would let CinnaBun choose his own
"wife", no questions asked, just like any good parent would do. When I first
arrived at the rescue with CinnaBun to meet a couple prospects for a wife (we didn't
wanna force CinnaBun to marry just anyone), he was kinda nervous... I mean
what guy wouldn't be right? The first date is very important to make a good
first impression! when CinnaBun met Nilla for the first time "IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST
SIGHT!" From that day on they shared my livingroom in wedded bliss.
Sadly, Nilla passed away June 28, 2003. She bravely suffered through
cataracts and many digestive complications before succumbing to a urinary tract
infection (Click the link for more information on "Calcium problems in Rabbits").
She is greatly missed by her bunny companion, CinnaBun, and ME.
I adopted Nilla from Rabbit Rescue, so in her memory for anyone interested in
adopting a rabbit in the Southern, CA area, their website is:
www.rabbitrescue.com. I hope that by providing the link that another well-deserving rabbit
can be given a second chance too.
