Spot

Spot

Spot was my second bunny. After Bunnster's death I had a huge hole in my heart and knew I needed to fill it. Not knowing any better, we went to the pet store. The minute I saw this tiny little brown and white baby she stole my heart.

We brought Spot home and she immediately became a member of our family. As soon as we put her down in the living room she started running around binkying. Her favorite place to sit was up on my husband's shoulder and we discovered her favorite treat was ice cream. We would always let her lick the empty bowl as a treat.

We had only had Spot three weeks, when on New Year's Day I noticed she wasn't eating or pooping. Off to the Emergency Vet. The vet diagnosed stasis and sent me home with medicine. Spot was such a good girl about taking her medicine and we made it through that crisis.

About two weeks later, my husband noticed a lump on the side of Spot's face. I felt it and there definately was a lump. Off to the vet. At the vet's office, I received the worst news possible. Spot had an abscess. The vet did not give me a good prognosis because of the location of the abscess (behind her eye), but I was not willing to give up. I immediately started her on bicillin injections and the vet scheduled her for surgery to drain the abscess.

My little Spot passed away the day after her surgery. The stress of the surgery was just too much for my tiny girl. I kick myself sometimes for agreeing to the surgery - I think she would have had a better chance with the bicillin regimen alone.

Spot was cremated, her urn and picture have a place of honor next to Bunnster. I often stand in front of their "shrine" and think about how much I loved these precious bunnies.
