Miffy

Miffy

Miffy came to us in March of 2005. She was a gift to my neighbor's 18 year old son from his girlfriend. (He was into wrestling and then enrolled in the Marines after highschool. How many 18 year old boys would want a bunny? )

I went over to see her and immediatly I had to "rescue" her. She was in very large dog kennel in the garage. She had old newspapers in there, a water bottle and guina pig food, that was it.

I knew nothing about rabbits but I knew I could do better. I took her then and there. After we put her cage in the livingroom, I took my two girls and went to the petstore and spent a easy $100 to start out, new pellets, new large water bottle, Carefresh, litterpan, timothy hay, some shavings, a few little treats and a rabbit book.

Then I found a website (RO) and found out about the veggies, what binkies are and it is a good thing when they circle you among a lot of other info. It made me so happy when she started to do binkies the first week I had her! Now that I think about it, since she was in the garage ALL the time (they had a chihuahua in the house), of course she would be extremly happy to be out

She really came into her own in the short time I had her. She would get mad at me and would chew on the bars if I for some reason (life with 3 kids under the age of 4!) was not able to let her out for her required 2 hours every single night. One way or another, she was going to get out! I think I really spoiled her when I started to let her out for 2 hours in the mornings also.

She was very happy every night when I gave her her dandelion greens, romaine, parsely and cilantro with the occasional mint or basil. Hopping up and down and in circles until I put it in the spot.

Her cage also was transformed. She had 2 litterboxes, I bought coroplast to cover the back 3 sides of the cage (she had real bad aim!) a hay rack from IKEA and the old cats bed.

Towards the end she had started to tolerate my cat, as in she would not run at her and growl all the time !

I never really thought that owning a bunny (or being owned by one), would be such a learning experience. I guess you can say the only experience I had with the was the commercials around Easter time.

I am very glad that she was the first of my rabbits. She was the perfect one for me to learn from, she never bit me, was very grateful for the simple things (nose to tail pettings were her absolute favorite, she would sit there as long as I would pet her). She showed no fear of my girls and they never gave her a reason to be scared of them.

I miss petting her very soft and silky fur. Then there are all the binkies I will really miss seeing, from one end of the room to the other, sometimes while on her blanket, she would be sitting there and just jump straight up and start binkying all over the place!

Goodby Miffy, thank you for coming into my life and showing me how great rabbits are!
